About the Park
St. Vartan Park offers casual play with a more competitive scene on Monday and Friday evenings. The courts rough surface and handball lines lend the occasional awkward bounce. Renovation efforts are ongoing, and a petition to surface the courts is live at https://www.change.org/p/upgrade-for-safety-st-vartan-park-public-courts-that-serve-large-pickleball-community.
There is free pickleball equipment! The St. Vartan Park Conservancy provides a stocked pickleball storage chest next to the courts.
-
- Get the key from the fence lockbox.
- Insert the key into the front chest lock.
- Turn the key and pull it outward.
- Slide the iron bar next to the lock.
- Lift the lid and return the key to the fence lockbox.
-
- Close the lid completely.
- Slide the iron bar back into place.
- Push the lock in (the key is not needed to lock it).
- Check the community Slack channels for access updates.
- Post on Slack once you finish to confirm all equipment and nets are safely locked away.
Park Rules
(From St. Vartan Conservancy website)
“Organizers of community play sessions provide for a fair and fun experience with the following defaults:”
- “Courts are divided into skill level with the first court for intermediate, the second for advanced, the third for beginner and the fourth for advanced”
- “There will be separate queues for each level, with this rotation: two on and two off until four paddles per court are in the queue and then four on and four off”
- “Within all four courts are available, one advanced court will serve a a challenge court with its own queue with two on and two off. If a team wins three games in a row, it must then depart the court.”
- “Each player is allowed to have one paddle in only one of the queues at a time (not a paddle in multiple queues)”
- “The community nets in the park’s equipment storage box will not be used for private sessions”
